About Giving Your Best
The Giving Your Best Award honors people in our community who have made a significant difference in the lives of others. Award Recipients are selected based on their contributions to our community and ongoing efforts, above and beyond their job, to help others.
On the first Monday of each month, Jennie Montgomery will feature the latest Giving Your Best recipient during the WJBF News Channel 6 at 5:00 PM newscast. The Giving Your Best Partners include, Georgia Bank & Trust, Solvay Advanced Polymers, Walton Rehabilitation Health Center, and WJBF News Channel 6.
This Month's GYB Winner
Patsy Skinner
Patsy and Eddie Skinner used to fix a few sandwiches & drinks and pass them out to people who live in "The Bottom," an area around Gordon Highway and Old Savannah Road. But their mission has grown into a full hot meal, every Wednesday... because Patsy believes it gives people something to look forward to in the middle of their week. As Jennie Montgomery tells us...Patricia Patterson heard about the Skinners' dinners when she moved in with her grandmother.
Student PSA Winners
The GYB Student PSA contest begins in January. WJBF News Channel 6 sends a letter to local elementary, middle, and high schools asking for their participation. In the packet we include a blank story board. The classes are instructed to complete the storyboard and send in their nominations by the deadline in March. We then take the nominations to our Giving Your Best partners and they vote on the top three; one elementary school, one middle school, and one high school. News Channel 6 camera crews then go to the schools and shoot their :30 second PSA which airs shortly after.
